Former Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Charged with Home Invasion and Stalking

Summary

Sherrone Moore, recently dismissed as head football coach at the University of Michigan, faces felony and misdemeanor charges following allegations of an inappropriate relationship and subsequent criminal behavior.

Sherrone Moore, the former head football coach at the University of Michigan, has been charged with felony third-degree home invasion and two misdemeanors—stalking within a domestic relationship and breaking and entering. These charges follow allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and subsequent criminal behavior.

The university terminated Moore, 39, earlier this week after an internal investigation uncovered credible evidence of misconduct. Athletic Director Warde Manuel stated, "This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior."

According to prosecutors, after his dismissal, Moore allegedly broke into the home of a woman with whom he had a long-term affair, brandished knives, and made threats. He was arrested and appeared in Washtenaw County court via video from jail. The magistrate issued a $25,000 bond, required GPS monitoring, and ordered Moore to undergo mental health treatment and avoid contact with the victim.

Moore, married with three children, became Michigan’s first Black head coach in January 2024 and led the football team to a 9-3 record in the 2025 season. Biff Poggi has been appointed as interim coach for the team's upcoming Citrus Bowl appearance against the University of Texas.
