Former Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Arrested Following Dismissal
Sherrone Moore, recently dismissed as head coach of the University of Michigan football team, has been arrested on charges including home invasion and stalking.
Sherrone Moore, the former head coach of the University of Michigan football team, was arrested on Wednesday following his dismissal from the university. Moore, 39, is facing charges including third-degree home invasion, misdemeanor stalking, and two counts of misdemeanor breaking and entering. He is scheduled for arraignment on Friday in Washtenaw County, Michigan.
The arrest occurred after Pittsfield Township police responded to a call from a woman reporting an assault and alleging that a man had been stalking her for months. The incident took place at an apartment complex where Moore's executive assistant resides. Prior to the alleged assault, Moore's wife contacted authorities, expressing concern that he was suicidal after losing his job. She reported that he had left their home with several knives.
Earlier on Wednesday, the University of Michigan terminated Moore's employment, citing "credible evidence" of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Athletic Director Warde Manuel stated that Moore's behavior constituted a clear violation of university policy. Moore, who had been with the university since 2018 and served as head coach since 2024, led the Wolverines to an 18-8 record over two seasons. Associate coach Biff Poggi has been named interim head coach.
