Ole Miss Players Dispute Lane Kiffin's Farewell Statement
Several Ole Miss players have contested former head coach Lane Kiffin's claim that they requested he continue coaching during the College Football Playoff.
Former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin's departure to LSU has been met with controversy, as several Rebels players challenge his assertion that they asked him to remain as coach during the College Football Playoff.
In a public statement, Kiffin claimed that the team requested his continued leadership for the postseason, a request he said was denied by athletic director Keith Carter. However, offensive lineman Brycen Sanders, a member of the team's leadership council, refuted this, stating, "I think everyone that was in that room would disagree."
Supporting Sanders' account, offensive linemen Paris Wilkins and Jayden Williams expressed agreement, with Wilkins commenting, "Fax this was not said from anyone." Linebacker Suntarine Perkins also contested Kiffin's statement, noting, "That was not the message you said in the meeting room."
Former defensive tackle Tariqious Tisdale, who played under Kiffin in 2020, criticized the coach, stating, "Don't get me started on lane he's been a snake since I met him."
Kiffin was officially introduced as LSU's head coach on Monday, expressing both excitement for his new role and sadness about leaving Ole Miss. He described the decision to depart during a pivotal moment as "excruciating and difficult," and acknowledged the disappointment in not being allowed to coach the Rebels in the CFP.
