A shooting at a family gathering in Stockton, California, on Saturday evening resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including three children, and left 11 others wounded. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. at a banquet hall in the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue, where over 100 people had assembled for a child's birthday party.
San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow indicated that multiple shooters might have been involved and that the attack appeared to be targeted. He urged the community to come forward with any information, stating,
"This is a time for our community to show that we will not put up with this type of behavior, when people will just walk in and kill children."
The victims included children aged 8, 9, and 14, as well as a 21-year-old adult. Among the injured, at least one person remained in critical condition as of Sunday evening.
Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi expressed her grief over the tragedy, noting that the 8-year-old victim attended a local school and had a parent employed by the Stockton Unified School District. She emphasized the need for community support and counseling services for those affected.
Authorities are actively investigating the shooting, with assistance from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. No suspects have been identified or apprehended at this time. Officials are appealing to the public for any information that could aid in the investigation.
