Colorado Man Sentenced to Life for Stalking and Murdering Wife

Summary

Daniel Krug received a life sentence without parole for the 2023 murder of his wife, Kristil Krug, after orchestrating a stalking campaign by impersonating her ex-boyfriend.

In December 2023, Kristil Krug, a 43-year-old biochemical engineer from Broomfield, Colorado, was found murdered in her garage. Her husband, Daniel Krug, 44, was convicted of first-degree murder, stalking, and criminal impersonation in April 2025.

Prosecutors revealed that Daniel Krug had impersonated Kristil's ex-boyfriend, sending her threatening messages to manipulate and control her. When Kristil began cooperating with police, Daniel attacked her upon her return from dropping their children at school, knocking her unconscious and fatally stabbing her.

Investigations traced the threatening messages to Daniel's workplace, and surveillance footage confirmed his involvement. Despite the defense's argument of no direct physical evidence linking him to the crime, the jury found the circumstantial evidence compelling.

Daniel Krug was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, with an additional nine and a half years for the stalking and impersonation charges. The couple's three children are now being raised by Kristil's brother and his wife.

District Attorney Brian Mason described the case as "a brutal, calculated murder" and highlighted the emotional abuse and deception leading up to the crime.
