IDF Intensifies Operations Against Hamas Operatives in Rafah
The Israel Defense Forces are actively targeting Hamas operatives trapped in Rafah, Gaza Strip, aiming to neutralize remaining threats and dismantle tunnel networks.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are intensifying efforts to locate and neutralize Hamas operatives trapped in the Jenina neighborhood of Rafah, Gaza Strip. Col. Adi Gonen, commander of the Golani Brigade, stated, "Our main mission is to destroy or capture the enemy in Rafah."
These operatives have been confined to the area since the collapse of a previous truce earlier this year. The IDF estimates that the number of gunmen has decreased from initial assessments of 200 to several dozen, due to casualties from Israeli strikes and deteriorating conditions underground. The military believes the operatives are led by a Hamas battalion commander and several company commanders.
In recent operations, IDF combat engineers have destroyed hundreds of meters of tunnels in the area. The Israeli Air Force has conducted strikes on over 60 targets, including 15 tunnel shafts and approximately 40 buildings used by terror groups. Surviving operatives are reportedly running low on supplies and have attempted to emerge from tunnels in search of food. In one incident, 17 gunmen surfaced from tunnels at two locations in Jenina; all were either killed or captured.
Col. Gonen emphasized the IDF's commitment to the mission, stating, "It's simple, either they surrender or we'll kill them." The IDF continues to operate in the area to eliminate remaining terrorist infrastructure and ensure the security of Israeli civilians.
