Morgan Geyser Apprehended in Illinois After Escaping Wisconsin Group Home

Summary

Morgan Geyser, known for the 2014 'Slender Man' stabbing, was arrested in Illinois after fleeing a Wisconsin group home and removing her monitoring device.

Morgan Geyser, convicted in the 2014 'Slender Man' stabbing, was apprehended in Posen, Illinois, after escaping from a Wisconsin group home. Geyser, 23, had removed her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and left the facility in Madison on Saturday night. She was last seen around 8 p.m. with an adult acquaintance.

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections received an alert about the malfunctioning ankle monitor at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Upon contacting the group home around 11:30 p.m., staff reported that Geyser was not present and had removed the device. Madison Police were notified of her disappearance on Sunday morning.

Geyser and a 42-year-old friend were located at a truck stop in Posen on Sunday night. The friend was charged with obstructing identification for initially providing a false identity to police. Geyser is expected to appear for an extradition hearing in Cook County.

In 2014, Geyser and Anissa Weier, both 12 at the time, lured classmate Payton Leutner to a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times. The attack was intended to appease the fictional character 'Slender Man'. Leutner survived the attack. Geyser was found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and was committed to a psychiatric institution for up to 40 years. She was released to a group home earlier this year after experts testified to her progress in treatment.
