‘Wicked: For Good’ Achieves Record $30.8 Million in Previews
Universal's 'Wicked: For Good' earns $30.8 million in previews, setting a new record for 2025.
Universal Pictures' 'Wicked: For Good' has garnered $30.8 million in preview screenings ahead of its official release, marking the highest preview earnings of 2025. The film's preview schedule included $6.1 million from Monday Amazon Prime screenings, $6.5 million from Wednesday advance showings, and $18.2 million from Thursday previews.
This performance surpasses the previous record held by Warner Bros.' 'Superman,' which earned $22.5 million in Thursday previews earlier this year.
Projections for 'Wicked: For Good' suggest an opening weekend gross between $150 million and $180 million, potentially surpassing the $162 million debut of 'A Minecraft Movie,' the current highest opening of 2025.
The original 'Wicked' film, released in November 2024, achieved $19.2 million in previews and a $112.5 million opening weekend.
'Wicked: For Good' continues the story of Elphaba and Glinda, portrayed by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, respectively. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu and features a cast including Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, and Bowen Yang.
Also debuting this weekend is Sony's action sequel 'Sisu: Road to Revenge,' projected to open with $3 million, and Searchlight's 'Rental Family,' starring Brendan Fraser, expected to launch in the low single digits.
