Georgia Climbs to No. 4 in Latest College Football Playoff Rankings
Ohio State, Indiana, and Texas A&M maintain top positions; Georgia ascends to fourth after Alabama's loss to Oklahoma.
In the latest College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings released Tuesday, Ohio State, Indiana, and Texas A&M retained the top three spots, while Georgia moved up to No. 4 following Alabama's 23-21 loss to Oklahoma.
Alabama's defeat resulted in a drop to No. 10, with Oklahoma climbing to No. 8. Georgia's ascent comes after a decisive victory over then-No. 10 Texas, improving their record to 9-1.
The rankings also feature a cluster of 8-2 teams occupying positions eight through fifteen. Texas Tech, Ole Miss, and Oregon, each with one loss, follow Georgia in the standings.
Tulane entered the Top 25 at No. 24 as the Group of Five representative, replacing South Florida. Miami, ranked No. 13, is the highest-ranked team from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) but faces challenges in reaching the conference championship due to two league losses.
The selection committee's evaluation criteria have sparked controversy, particularly regarding Notre Dame's position at No. 9 despite a loss to Miami. New committee chair Hunter Yurachek explained that teams are separated into tiers based on the quality of their losses, which influences the timing of comparisons.
Projected first-round CFP matchups include Tulane versus Texas Tech and Alabama versus Oregon. BYU, despite a 9-1 record, is currently the first team out of the playoff bracket.
