Georgia Ticket Wins $980 Million Mega Millions Jackpot
A single ticket sold in Newnan, Georgia, has won the $980 million Mega Millions jackpot, marking the largest lottery prize in the state's history.
A single Mega Millions ticket sold at a Publix supermarket in Newnan, Georgia, matched all six numbers drawn on Friday night, securing the $980 million jackpot. The winning numbers were 1, 8, 11, 12, 57, and the Mega Ball 7. This marks the largest lottery prize ever won in Georgia.
The winner has the option to receive the prize as a lump sum of $452.2 million before taxes or as an annuity paid over 30 years. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are approximately 1 in 290.5 million.
"We are thrilled to congratulate the largest winner in our state's history," said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin. "With every Mega Millions ticket sold in Georgia supporting HOPE and Pre-K, Georgia's students and families are also big winners."
This jackpot win ends a record streak of 40 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner, the longest in the game's history. The previous Mega Millions jackpot was won on June 27 in Virginia.
Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
