House Speaker Mike Johnson announced plans to hold a vote next week on a bill to release Jeffrey Epstein's files, following bipartisan efforts to compel the Justice Department to disclose the documents.
House Speaker Mike Johnson announced plans to hold a vote next week on a bill to release Jeffrey Epstein's files, following bipartisan efforts to compel the Justice Department to disclose the documents.
"We are going to put that on the floor for full vote next week, soon as we get back," Johnson stated, emphasizing the Oversight Committee's commitment to transparency.
This development follows a bipartisan initiative led by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, who gathered sufficient signatures to force a vote on releasing all Epstein-related files. The effort reached the necessary 218 signatures after Democratic Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva signed the petition upon her swearing-in.
The White House dismissed the release of emails from Epstein referencing President Donald Trump, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stating, "These emails prove absolutely nothing, other than the fact that President Trump did nothing wrong."
President Trump addressed the situation, writing, "The Democrats are trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again because they’ll do anything at all to deflect on how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown, and so many other subjects."
Leavitt further noted that Trump had previously expelled Epstein from his Florida club, Mar-a-Lago, for inappropriate behavior.
The release of Epstein's emails has intensified calls for transparency. Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia urged, "We won’t stop until we end this White House cover-up. Release the files, NOW."
House Republicans on the Oversight Committee accused Democrats of attempting to "create a fake narrative to slander President Trump," highlighting the political tensions surrounding the case.
The upcoming vote signifies a significant step in the ongoing efforts to disclose Epstein's files, reflecting bipartisan support for transparency and accountability.
