Dallas Mavericks Dismiss GM Nico Harrison Following Disappointing Start
The Dallas Mavericks have fired General Manager Nico Harrison after a 3-8 season start, following the controversial trade of Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Dallas Mavericks have terminated General Manager Nico Harrison's contract after the team's 3-8 start to the season. This decision comes nine months after Harrison orchestrated the trade of star player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, a move that faced significant backlash from fans and analysts.
Team owner Patrick Dumont emphasized the organization's commitment to building a championship-caliber team, stating, "This decision reflects our continued commitment to building a championship-caliber organization, one that delivers for our players, our partners, and most importantly, our fans."
In the interim, Assistant General Managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi will serve as co-general managers while the search for a permanent replacement is underway.
The trade of Dončić, a five-time All-NBA player, for Anthony Davis was intended to bolster the team's defense. However, Davis has struggled with injuries, missing 30 of 44 games since joining the Mavericks.
Despite acquiring top draft pick Cooper Flagg in June, the Mavericks' performance has continued to decline, leading to increased fan dissatisfaction and calls for Harrison's dismissal.
Dumont acknowledged the challenges faced by the organization, stating, "I understand the profound impact these difficult last several months have had. Please know that I’m fully committed to the success of the Mavericks."
The Mavericks are now focused on stabilizing the team and regaining the trust of their fan base as they search for new leadership in their basketball operations.
