Tesla Reports Record Q3 Deliveries Amid Margin Concerns
Tesla achieved record vehicle deliveries in Q3 2025, but declining profit margins raise questions about future profitability.
Tesla Inc. reported a record-breaking quarter in Q3 2025, delivering 497,099 electric vehicles—a 7% increase year-over-year. This surge in deliveries contributed to a 12% rise in total revenue, reaching $28.1 billion. However, the company's profit margins have come under scrutiny. GAAP gross margin declined from 19.8% to 18% compared to the same period last year, and GAAP earnings per share fell by 37%.
Analysts attribute the record deliveries partly to the expiration of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, which may have accelerated consumer purchases into Q3. This raises concerns about potential demand slowdowns in subsequent quarters. Additionally, increased operating expenses, particularly in autonomy improvements, have impacted profitability.
Top investor Daniel Sparks expressed caution, stating, "The valuation arguably prices in too much, leaving little room for error. I'd stay on the sidelines for now."
Wall Street remains divided on Tesla's outlook, with a consensus 'Hold' rating based on 14 'Buy', 11 'Hold', and 10 'Sell' recommendations. The 12-month average price target stands at $378.20, suggesting a potential decline of approximately 13% from current levels.
