Second Detainee Dies Following Dallas ICE Facility Shooting
Miguel Ángel García-Hernández, a 32-year-old detainee, has died after being shot during an attack at a Dallas ICE facility, becoming the second fatality in the incident.
Miguel Ángel García-Hernández, a 32-year-old detainee, has died after being shot during an attack at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, becoming the second fatality in the incident. The shooting occurred on September 24, 2025, when a gunman opened fire from a nearby rooftop, targeting the ICE field office and a transport van holding detainees. García-Hernández was critically injured and succumbed to his injuries after being removed from life support on September 30.
The attack also resulted in the death of 37-year-old detainee Norlan Guzmán-Fuentes from El Salvador, who was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting. A third detainee, Jose Andres Bordones-Molina from Venezuela, was injured but has since been released from the hospital.
Authorities identified the shooter as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the attack. Investigations revealed that Jahn intended to target ICE agents, not detainees.
García-Hernández's wife, Stephany Gauffeny, described her husband as "a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our family." She added, "His death is a senseless tragedy that has left our family shattered. I do not know how to explain to our children that their father is gone."
The couple had recently purchased their first home together and were expecting their fifth child. García-Hernández had lived in the U.S. for nearly two decades and was in the process of obtaining legal residency.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of detainees and the need for increased security measures at ICE facilities. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons stated that all ICE facilities would be placed on higher alert following the shooting.
