A 21-year-old driver from Yuba City was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs following a fatal eight-vehicle collision on the westbound 10 Freeway in Ontario. The crash occurred around 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, near the 15 Freeway interchange. The incident involved four semi-trucks, two pickup trucks, and two cars, resulting in three fatalities and four injuries.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), traffic had slowed in the area when the suspect's semi-truck failed to stop, causing a chain-reaction collision. Witness Jason Calmelat, who was nearby at the time, described the crash as sounding "like a big explosion" and noted that the red truck "didn't stop. It didn't swerve. It didn't make any kind of maneuvers. It just went straight in."
The driver, identified as Jashanpreet Singh, was booked at the West Valley Detention Center on charges of driving under the influence of drugs and vehicular manslaughter. The identities of the deceased have not been released. Among the injured were Singh and a mechanic who was assisting with a tire change on the side of the freeway at the time of the crash.
Officer Rodrigo Jimenez of the CHP commented on the severity of the incident, stating, "This could have been prevented if somebody had been paying attention sober." The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the CHP Rancho Cucamonga Area office.
