Warner Bros. Discovery Considers Sale Amid Multiple Acquisition Offers

Warner Bros. Discovery is evaluating strategic alternatives, including a potential sale, after receiving multiple acquisition offers. Paramount Global has made three bids over the past month, all of which have been declined. The latest offer, presented on October 13, proposed $23.50 per share in cash and stock, representing a 52% premium over Warner Bros. Discovery's share price prior to the initial bid. In response to these unsolicited offers, Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Tuesday that it is initiating a review of strategic alternatives, considering both partial and full company sales. The company stated that this decision was prompted by "the unsolicited interest of multiple parties". Paramount's Chief Executive, David Ellison, emphasized the potential benefits of a merger, stating, "We are confident that we are the best partner for WBD, with a combination of our two companies creating a scaled Hollywood champion to the benefit of both our companies' shareholders, consumers, and the entertainment industry at large." The proposed acquisition would combine two major Hollywood studios, Warner Bros. and Paramount, and merge streaming services HBO Max and Paramount+, significantly impacting the media landscape. Warner Bros. Discovery continues to explore various options, including its previously announced plan to split the company into two separate entities by mid-2026.
