Zelenskyy Supports Trump's Proposal to Freeze Ukraine-Russia Conflict at Current Frontlines
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy endorses U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion to halt the Ukraine-Russia conflict along existing battle lines, though he doubts Russian acceptance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed support for U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to freeze the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia at the current frontlines. Speaking during a visit to Oslo, Zelenskyy described the suggestion as "a good compromise" but voiced skepticism about Russian President Vladimir Putin's willingness to agree. "I think that was a good compromise but I'm not sure that Putin will support it, and I said it to the president," Zelenskyy stated.
President Trump had earlier proposed that both sides "stop right now at the battle lines, go home, stop killing people and be done," suggesting that territorial disputes could be addressed in future negotiations.
Despite Zelenskyy's openness to the proposal, Russian officials have indicated a lack of support. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized the need to address the conflict's root causes, stating, "You see, simply stopping would mean forgetting the root causes of this conflict."
The situation remains complex, with ongoing military engagements and diplomatic efforts continuing to seek a resolution to the conflict.
