Trump Nominee Paul Ingrassia Under Scrutiny for Racist Remarks in Leaked Messages
Leaked group chat messages reveal controversial statements by Paul Ingrassia, President Trump's nominee for the Office of Special Counsel, including self-described 'Nazi streak' and derogatory comments about Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Paul Ingrassia, President Donald Trump's nominee for the Office of Special Counsel, is facing criticism following the release of private group chat messages containing racist remarks and self-described extremist tendencies. In messages from early 2024, Ingrassia suggested that Martin Luther King Jr. Day should be "tossed into the seventh circle of hell" and admitted to having a "Nazi streak".
Ingrassia's attorney, Edward Andrew Paltzik, questioned the authenticity of the leaked texts, suggesting they could have been manipulated or taken out of context. He stated that if the messages were genuine, they were intended as "self-deprecating and satirical humor" mocking the tendency of liberals to label MAGA supporters as 'Nazis'.
Ingrassia, 30, has held several positions in the Trump administration, including roles at the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security. His confirmation hearing for the Office of Special Counsel is scheduled for Thursday.
This is not the first controversy surrounding Ingrassia. Earlier this year, he faced a sexual harassment complaint, which he dismissed as a "vexatious political attack".
The Office of Special Counsel is responsible for protecting federal whistleblowers from retaliation. Ingrassia's nomination has drawn criticism due to his public comments, lack of experience, and associations with white supremacist figures.
