SpaceX Successfully Completes 11th Starship Test Flight, Paving Way for Next-Generation Rocket
SpaceX's Starship completed its 11th test flight, achieving key milestones and setting the stage for the upcoming Version 3 iteration.
SpaceX's Starship, the largest and most powerful rocket to date, successfully completed its 11th test flight on October 13, 2025. The 403-foot-tall vehicle launched from the Starbase facility in South Texas, marking the final mission for the "Version 2" variant.
During the suborbital flight, both the Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage executed precise splashdowns. The upper stage also relit one of its engines in space and deployed eight dummy payloads, demonstrating key capabilities for future missions.
SpaceX announced that focus now shifts to the next generation of Starship and Super Heavy, with multiple vehicles currently in active build and preparing for tests. This upcoming iteration, referred to as Version 3, will be approximately 5 feet taller than its predecessor and will incorporate significant internal upgrades, including an overhauled propulsion system designed to accommodate the more powerful Raptor 3 engines.
Additional enhancements in Version 3 include energy storage upgrades, numerous avionics changes, and new docking adapters to facilitate in-space propellant transfer—a critical capability for deep-space missions. The Super Heavy booster will feature a redesigned fuel transfer tube and an integrated hot stage, aiming for full reusability.
The successful completion of Flight 11 and the transition to Version 3 signify a major step forward in SpaceX's goal of developing a fully and rapidly reusable vehicle capable of servicing Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
