Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of the Welsh rock band Lostprophets, was fatally stabbed at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire on Saturday morning. The 48-year-old was serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offences. Emergency services responded to the incident, but Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
West Yorkshire Police have arrested two inmates, aged 25 and 43, on suspicion of murder. A spokesperson stated: "Detectives have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man in HMP Wakefield."
In 2013, Watkins pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including the attempted rape of a baby and creating child pornography. His conviction led to the disbandment of Lostprophets and widespread public condemnation.
HMP Wakefield, often referred to as "Monster Mansion," houses some of the UK's most dangerous offenders.
The investigation into Watkins' death is ongoing, with authorities reviewing security protocols and the circumstances leading up to the incident.
