U.S. Deploys 200 Troops to Support Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Monitoring

The United States is deploying about 200 military personnel to Israel to assist in monitoring the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. This initiative is part of a broader international effort to ensure the truce's implementation and facilitate humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, will oversee the establishment of a civil-military coordination center in Israel. This center aims to coordinate the flow of humanitarian assistance and provide logistical and security support. The U.S. troops involved possess expertise in transportation, planning, security, logistics, and engineering.

A senior U.S. official emphasized that no American troops are intended to enter Gaza. The official stated, "His role will be to oversee, observe, make sure there are no violations, incursion; everybody’s worried about the other side."

The coordination center will also integrate personnel from partner nations, including Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. These international partners will collaborate to monitor the ceasefire and support the transition to a civilian government in Gaza.

This deployment follows the recent agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of a plan to end the two-year conflict. The plan includes the release of hostages and prisoners, withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the establishment of a framework for Gaza's future governance.

The U.S. military's involvement underscores its commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region, ensuring the ceasefire's success, and aiding in Gaza's reconstruction efforts.
