Gunman Attacks Dallas ICE Facility, Resulting in Fatalities

Summary

A gunman opened fire at a Dallas ICE detention facility, killing one detainee and injuring two others before taking his own life.

A gunman opened fire at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Dallas on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of one detainee and injuries to two others. The shooter, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as law enforcement closed in on his location.

The attack occurred around 7 a.m. local time, when Jahn fired from a nearby rooftop onto the ICE facility. The two injured detainees were transported to local hospitals and are reported to be in critical condition. No ICE officers were harmed during the incident.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that evidence collected indicates "a high degree of pre-attack planning." Investigators found that Jahn had researched Department of Homeland Security facilities and had downloaded documents related to the Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management. Additionally, he had searched for information on ballistics and the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in the days leading up to the attack.

A handwritten note recovered from Jahn's residence read, "Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, 'is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?'" The term "AP" is believed to refer to armor-piercing rounds.

In response to the attack, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem ordered increased security measures at ICE facilities nationwide. She also attributed the incident to rhetoric from the "far-left."

This incident follows a series of attacks targeting ICE facilities in Texas this year, including a bomb threat at the same Dallas facility in August and an ambush at an ICE detention center in Alvarado in July.

The investigation is ongoing, with federal and local authorities working to determine the full extent of Jahn's planning and any potential accomplices.
