Knicks point guard Tyler Kolek calls Taylor Swift a "performative" fan
During a livestream interview, Knicks guard Tyler Kolek suggested Taylor Swift may be the most insincere celebrity supporter, prompting a team spokesperson to reaffirm her long-standing fandom.
New York Knicks guard Tyler Kolek sparked controversy in a Thursday NBA 2K TikTok livestream when, after being asked who the "fakest celebrity Knicks fan" was, he described some fans as "performative" and singled out pop star Taylor Swift as possibly the biggest example. Kolek noted that Swift’s busy schedule limits her attendance but said that when she does appear at games she seems "a little performative." Teammate Deuce McBride warned that Kolek could face backlash from Swift’s fan base, the "Swifties," and added that the Knicks have a core group of celebrity supporters that includes Ben Stiller and Tracy Morgan.
"Taylor Swift has been a Knicks fan for many years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden, and we are incredibly appreciative of her support of the organization," a Knicks spokesperson told TMZ Sports.
The team clarified that while individual players may hold personal opinions, those views do not represent the organization’s official stance.
