Redacted court filings reveal family and acquaintances offering housing and financial surety for Sam Wood, who has been denied bail in a Queensland assault case.

Queensland courts have received partially redacted documents outlining a network of support for former reality-television contestant Sam Wood, whose applications for bail were rejected by a magistrate and later by the Supreme Court. Wood faces charges of strangulation and assault occasioning bodily harm after an alleged attack on his wife, Snezana, during a holiday in Noosa in early October.

In a statement submitted by Wood’s father, Andrew Wood, the family described a close relationship, noting that they speak at least fortnightly and that Sam had visited his father and two daughters for several days. Andrew offered to move to a three-bedroom house in Tasmania, which he said has internet and mobile coverage, to help Sam work from home and stay in touch with his legal team. He added that he would live with his son for up to six months if bail were granted.

Another supporter, who has known Wood since 1999, said they could act as a $1 million surety, citing confidence that Wood would comply with bail conditions and attend court. A third statement, referencing a long-standing personal connection with Wood’s parents, pledged ongoing assistance and hospitality, emphasizing regular family gatherings and the willingness to host Wood when needed.

Justice Patrick McCafferty, who denied bail on Friday, said the alleged incident began with an argument after Wood had consumed several drinks at dinner. According to the judge, the dispute involved Wood’s daughter, Eve Markoski Wood, and escalated to physical aggression, prompting Snezana to intervene. The court record includes allegations that Wood grabbed his wife’s throat, causing her to lose breath.

Wood is appealing the bail denial, with a further hearing scheduled later this month.
