Juvenile court releases 8-year-old accused of school assault after parents pledge rehabilitation

摘要

An eight-year-old boy charged with assaulting a six-year-old girl in a Haryana school was released from juvenile custody, with the court ordering removal of identifying media and a compliance report by late November.

An eight-year-old Class 3 student accused of assaulting a kindergarten girl with stones and a flower pot inside a classroom in Panchkula, Haryana, was released from juvenile custody by the Juvenile Justice Board. The board noted that the child has no prior criminal record and that continued detention could harm his education and psychological development. The boy's parents assured officials that they would provide counselling, behavioural correction and rehabilitation.

The court also ordered that all videos, photographs and other material revealing the child's identity be removed from social media and public platforms, and instructed the investigating officer to submit a compliance report by November 27.

The incident occurred on October 28 at Sanskriti Model School, where a video showed the boy dragging the six-year-old victim, striking her head on a desk, throwing her to the floor and repeatedly attacking her with stones and a flower pot. The girl lost consciousness, was taken to a civil hospital and later transferred to PGI Chandigarh in serious condition before being discharged.

The victim's uncle suggested the boy habitually played aggressive video games, citing PUBG as an example, and said the father confirmed the child's gaming habits.
