Four NFL Teams Weigh Potential Trade for Colts Running Back Jonathan Taylor

The Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers are evaluating whether to acquire Jonathan Taylor before the trade deadline, each facing salary-cap and draft-pick considerations.

As the NFL trade deadline nears, the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers have been identified as teams showing interest in Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, according to ESPN reports. Running backs have regained prominence after recent successes by players such as Jahmyr Gibbs, Kenneth Walker III and Christian McCaffrey, prompting clubs to reassess the value of a mid-season acquisition.

The Vikings, described by Sports Illustrated as one of the most aggressive suitors, could use Taylor to improve a rushing attack that has underperformed despite contributions from Aaron Jones Sr. and Jordan Mason. Taylor, who recorded a 38-yard touchdown against Minnesota in Week 7, also offers versatility that could relieve pressure on quarterback Kyler Murray. However, the team’s limited cap space—approximately $5.8 million—may restrict its ability to absorb Taylor’s projected $4.6 million salary, and the Vikings would likely need to surrender at least a second-round pick and a third-rounder.

The Giants, currently leading the NFC East, are similarly constrained by a $6.5 million cap window and a modest draft portfolio. Adding Taylor, who is under contract through 2028, could provide a more consistent rushing option than the team’s existing backs, but the financial and draft-pick costs present comparable challenges.

Denver’s interest follows a strong performance by rookie running back Jonah Coleman, yet the Broncos’ $4.7 million cap space and recent injuries to other backs keep Taylor on the radar as a potential upgrade. The franchise, which reached the AFC title game last season, may view the trade as a way to bolster an offense that has struggled in the passing game.

Green Bay, which ranks near the bottom of the league in rushing yards per game, faces additional obstacles due to a weakened offensive line and the loss of a first-round pick in the Micah Parsons trade. While Taylor could enhance the Packers’ ground game, the team’s draft assets are limited, and the front office appears cautious about committing significant resources.

Other clubs, including Seattle, have been mentioned in speculation but lack clear indications of serious pursuit, given existing roster moves and draft investments.
