Powerball jackpot climbs to estimated $835 million for Wednesday draw
The Powerball jackpot has risen to about $835 million, the second-largest prize of the year, with a drawing scheduled for Wednesday.
The Multi-State Lottery Association announced that the Powerball jackpot reached an estimated $835 million for the upcoming Wednesday drawing. The prize could be taken as a lump-sum payment of roughly $357.9 million before taxes in the United States. If won, the amount would rank among the ten largest jackpots in Powerball history, trailing the $1.04 billion prize awarded in Illinois in August.
The $835 million jackpot is the first to be funded entirely by players on both sides of the Atlantic after Powerball expanded to the United Kingdom in July. The association said that the international expansion is expected to accelerate jackpot growth while keeping the ticket price at $2 and maintaining existing odds.
If a ticket purchased in the United Kingdom wins, the prize would be paid out over 30 years rather than as a single cash payment.
