President Trump reacts to Democratic victories in 2025 midterm elections

President Trump posted on Truth Social on election night, initially celebrating Republican gains in Guam and expressing optimism about future outcomes. As vote counts continued to favor Democratic candidates, the president’s messages shifted. He criticized media coverage, including remarks about Fox News personalities, and suggested that candidate quality and his own influence had been factors in the results. By late evening, Trump acknowledged the Democratic sweep, indicating a willingness to work with the new Congress and noting that he would consider a role as a political commentator.

"We’re going to work with the Democrats," Trump told Politico reporter Dash Burns.

White House officials also emphasized that the president’s efforts to promote Republican candidates remained strong, despite the losses. Throughout the night, Trump’s tone moved from confidence to a more subdued acceptance of the election outcome.
