Apple Expected to Consolidate High-End MacBook Pro Lineup Around Touchscreen Models
Analyst Mark Gurman predicts Apple will phase out non-touch high-end MacBook Pros as it expands its touchscreen lineup, with a new generation slated for 2027.
Apple is expected to streamline its high-end MacBook Pro range by focusing on touchscreen models, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman wrote in his recent "Power On" newsletter. Gurman noted that the company currently offers both mini-LED M5 Pro and M5 Max variants and newer touchscreen versions that are priced about $400 higher. He argued that maintaining parallel product lines requires additional development, production, and marketing resources, and suggested the two lines may eventually merge, though he did not give a timeline for ending the non-touch models.
"Given the price difference, I expect the two offerings to converge," Gurman said. Gurman also indicated that Apple plans to launch another generation of touchscreen MacBook Pros in 2027, equipped with M7 Pro and M7 Max processors and enhanced AI-related hardware. The same redesign is expected to extend to the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, which would feature a lighter, thinner chassis and narrower display borders, mirroring the high-end redesign. He previously reported that the base model could appear in the first half of 2027. Apple introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pros last week, retaining the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips introduced earlier in the year. The new devices combine OLED displays and Dynamic Island with a slimmer enclosure and an updated cooling system that directs warm air away from the screen.
