Iranian Negotiator Says US Voters Reject War After Democratic Congressional Win

Résumé

Iran's chief negotiator warned that American voters have rejected war following the Democrats' takeover of Congress, while President Trump linked the conflict with Iran to his party's midterm losses.

Iran's chief negotiator in talks with the United States, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, posted on X that Americans voted "no to war" after Democrats captured both chambers of Congress in the recent midterm elections.

"Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message," Ghalibaf wrote, adding that any U.S. government action contrary to public will would meet a "nightmare" response.

The Democratic victory, which saw the party seize control of the Senate and the House, was described as a major setback for President Donald Trump after two years in office.

President Trump told Fox News that the Iran conflict may have contributed to his party's defeat, while also asserting that his administration's actions against Iran were justified. He confirmed a recent strike on an anti-aircraft facility on Iran's Qeshm Island, calling it a "minor attack," and said the United States remained prepared for further action if needed.

Ghalibaf warned that Tehran is "ready for battle with its finger on the trigger" and said the responsibility now lies with the United States to avoid escalation.
