Iranian negotiator says US voters rejected war after Democratic sweep in midterms

Resumen

Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the 2026 US midterm results reflect American opposition to the conflict with Iran, while President Donald Trump acknowledged the war may have affected Republican losses.

Iranian chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the outcome of the 2026 United States midterm elections demonstrated a clear public rejection of war with Iran. He noted that Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, interpreting the result as a "NO TO WAR" message from American voters.

"Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message," Ghalibaf posted on X.

Ghalibaf warned that Washington should not ignore public sentiment, adding that any policy perceived as serving external interests could face strong opposition.

President Donald Trump, speaking to Fox News, said the conflict with Iran was one factor in the Republican defeat but argued that voters understood his approach toward Tehran.

"I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time, people understood the importance of what I've done with Iran," Trump said.

The Democratic takeover of Congress creates a more challenging environment for the Trump administration to advance its legislative agenda and may increase scrutiny of its handling of the Iran conflict.
