U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas secured the New Hampshire Senate seat after Republican John E. Sununu conceded following the election night count.
Republican candidate John E. Sununu conceded the U.S. Senate race to U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas shortly after polls closed in New Hampshire, around 8:10 p.m. Sununu addressed his supporters in Manchester, acknowledging the campaign’s intensity and noting that the night belonged to the winner.
"This has been an incredible campaign, but this is not our night," Sununu said at his election-night gathering.
Sununu said he called Pappas to congratulate him on the victory. Pappas later addressed his supporters, emphasizing that the result reflected a desire for change among New Hampshire voters.
"Whether you’re a Republican, an independent or a Democrat, tonight's victory is for you, because this is a victory for Team New Hampshire over the broken status quo that is hurting all of us," Pappas said.
The win fills the Senate seat previously held by Democrat Jeanne Shaheen and is viewed as significant for Democrats' efforts to gain control of the chamber.
