Kamala Harris Discusses New Memoir and Political Reflections in Recent Interview
Former Vice President Kamala Harris reflects on her 2024 presidential campaign and political relationships in a recent interview, coinciding with the release of her memoir '107 Days'.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris, in a recent interview, discussed her forthcoming memoir, "107 Days," which chronicles her 2024 presidential campaign following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race. The memoir offers candid insights into her experiences and the challenges faced during the campaign.
Harris recounted an instance involving California Governor Gavin Newsom, noting that after Biden's exit, she reached out to Newsom for support. She stated that Newsom texted he was hiking and would call back, but he never did. Newsom responded to this claim, explaining that he was indeed hiking when he received a call from an unknown number and was simultaneously preparing a statement endorsing Harris. He added, "I assume that's in the book as well—that, hours later, the endorsement came out."
The memoir also delves into Harris's considerations for a running mate. She revealed that Pete Buttigieg was her top choice but ultimately deemed the pairing too risky, believing that America wasn't ready for a ticket featuring both a Black woman and an openly gay man. Instead, she selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, whose debate performance against JD Vance she found lacking, expressing frustration that he seemed too amicable with the opponent.
Harris also addressed her views on President Biden's 2024 re-election campaign, describing it as "reckless" and expressing concerns about his age and campaign performance. She noted that Biden's inner circle should have realized that any campaign was a bridge too far, but it seemed that the worse things got, the more they pushed him.
Reflecting on her own campaign missteps, Harris admitted to a damaging appearance on "The View," where she failed to articulate differences between her and Biden's administration, leading to criticism and internal campaign turmoil.
"107 Days" is set for release on September 23, 2025, and provides an introspective look into one of the most consequential presidential campaigns in recent history.
