President Trump claims Republicans would have won midterms in a landslide if he were on the ballot

摘要

President Donald Trump said the Republican Party would have secured a landslide victory in the midterm elections had he been a candidate, as Democrats are projected to take control of the House and make gains in the Senate.

President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that the Republican Party would have won the midterm elections in a "landslide" if he had been on the ballot.

Democrats are projected to capture the House and are close to gaining a Senate majority, flipping several key races, including a Senate seat in Georgia and a gubernatorial race in Ohio. The results are being interpreted as a broader assessment of the administration’s second term, with voters expressing concerns over living costs, tariffs and the conflict with Iran, which have impacted fuel prices.

In South Carolina, Democratic pediatrician Annie Andrews defeated Darline Graham, a candidate supported by President Trump who had been appointed to fill the seat of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. The win marks the first Democratic Senate victory in the state since 1998.

Republicans also lost a Senate race in North Carolina, where Democratic candidate Roy Cooper defeated the party’s nominee handpicked by President Trump. In Ohio, Democrat Amy Acton won the gubernatorial contest over Trump-backed Indian-American Vivek Ramaswamy.

Democrats retained Senate seats in Georgia, where incumbent Jon Ossoff was re-elected, and in New Hampshire, where Chris Pappas became the first openly gay man elected to the chamber. Republicans entered Election Day holding a 53-47 Senate majority; with two seats already flipped, the final balance of power in the Senate remains to be determined.
