Missouri Voters Reject Republican-Backed Congressional Redistricting Map

Resumen

Missouri voters turned down a GOP-supported congressional map that had been challenged in courts, while Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver won reelection.

Missouri voters rejected a Republican-backed congressional redistricting plan that had been the subject of multiple court battles, the Associated Press reported. The map, drawn last year by GOP lawmakers, aimed to reshape the Kansas City district held by Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver in an effort to gain an additional House seat for the party.

State officials said the new district lines were part of a broader mid-decade redistricting push that President Trump initiated to strengthen his party ahead of the midterm elections. Missouri's highest court ruled the map could not be used for the upcoming elections, sending the decision to voters, a ruling later upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Cleaver secured reelection on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press race call.

Other states are also addressing redistricting measures: Maryland voters approved a constitutional amendment allowing Democratic leaders to redraw congressional districts before the 2028 election, and Colorado voters are considering a constitutional amendment that would prohibit maps designed to favor a particular party.
