U.S. Stock Futures Steady Amid Record Highs and Nvidia's Investment in OpenAI
U.S. stock futures remained stable as major indices reached record highs, driven by Nvidia's $100 billion investment in OpenAI.
U.S. stock futures held steady on Monday evening, with investors cautiously assessing the risks of a market at all-time highs. Futures on the Nasdaq 100, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and the S&P 500 Index were down 0.07%, 0.08%, and 0.07%, respectively, at 6:37 p.m. EDT on September 22.
This follows a day where all three major indices closed at record highs. The S&P 500 marked its third consecutive winning session, gaining 0.4% to close at 6,693.75. The Nasdaq Composite advanced by 0.7% to 22,788.98, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1% to 46,381.54. The Russell 2000, which tracks smaller companies, also gained 0.6% to 2,463.34.
The rally was fueled by a late-session surge in Nvidia's stock, which climbed nearly 4% following the company's announcement of a $100 billion investment in OpenAI to develop new data centers. This strategic partnership aims to build infrastructure capable of implementing at least 10 gigawatts in AI technology, equivalent to between 4 and 5 million graphics processing units (GPUs), essential for training and running next-generation models oriented towards "superintelligence."
Investors are also looking ahead to several key events that could impact the market. The latest reading of the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index, the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation, is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, S&P Global U.S. flash services and manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) reports will be made public tomorrow.
