Ontario police urge candy checks after needles found in Halloween treats

摘要

Ontario Provincial Police advise parents to examine Halloween candy for foreign objects after reports of needles and a nail in confectionery in Elliot Lake.

The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police have issued a reminder for parents and guardians to inspect Halloween candy before consumption following reports of dangerous foreign objects in several treats. Investigators documented two sewing needles discovered in single-serve Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and a carpenter’s nail found in a bite-size Mars bar.

The police advise that candy obtained from the Westview, Maple, Central, Spruce, Birch, Blackwell, Ottawa and Washington areas of Elliot Lake be closely examined for signs of tampering, damage, or homemade packaging. Items that appear opened, altered or suspicious should be discarded.

Authorities continue to investigate the incidents and ask anyone with information to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
