Former MP Ann Widdecombe's Devon home listed for sale at double purchase price

摘要

Ann Widdecombe's former Devon chalet bungalow is back on the market at a price about 50% higher than what she paid in 2008, weeks after a suspect was charged with her murder.

Knight Frank is handling the sale of Ann Widdecombe's detached chalet bungalow near Haytor Vale in Devon. The property, originally named Thurleco, is listed at roughly £900,000, about 50% above the £600,000 price she paid when she bought it in 2008. Agents describe the south-facing home as spacious and well-presented, set within gardens that provide "peace and privacy" and offering long-distance countryside views. Features include an ornamental front pond, a heated swimming pool with stone paving at the rear, and a wooden stable building at the top of the gardens.

The listing follows the July 20 charging of 28-year-old Joshua Kerry of Rotherham with Ms Widdecombe's murder. Court records state Kerry struck the former Reform Justice spokeswoman 21 times with a hammer after entering her home. Counter-terrorism and Devon and Cornwall police also charged him with preparation of terrorist acts relating to alleged activity between May 31, 2024, and July 8, 2024.

Head of counter-terrorism policing Vicki Evans said the charge resulted from "the tireless work of investigators across the counter-terrorism policing network" and a team of detectives, analysts and forensic experts. Kerry appeared at the Central Criminal Court on October 9 for a case-management hearing, with a further hearing set for November 20 and a provisional trial date of June 8 next year.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the murder raises "serious questions" about the security of MPs and pledged to review protections for public officials once parliament reconvenes.
