Union Ministers Challenge Rahul Gandhi to Parliamentary Debate

摘要

Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged Rahul Gandhi to accept a proposed special session of Parliament for a debate, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reiterated his call for a discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has invited Rahul Gandhi to a debate in Parliament, offering a special session to discuss election-related issues. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman echoed the invitation, urging Gandhi to bring his concerns to the House and engage in the parliamentary process.

"Rahul ji, you ask the Prime Minister to choose a venue for a debate. There is already one: Parliament, where you happen to be the Leader of the Opposition," Sitharaman said, adding that demanding answers also requires hearing them.

"You speak endlessly about protecting democracy and the Constitution. That respect should also reflect in how you treat the institutions they have established," she continued, calling for Gandhi to present facts and face scrutiny in the House.

Janata Dal (United) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said that if Gandhi has confidence in parliamentary democracy, he should accept Shah’s challenge and raise his issues in Parliament. Prasad also noted that the Supreme Court has affirmed the Election Commission’s authority to conduct the voter-verification process.

The Congress party responded by suggesting that Shah should first address concerns about the Chief Election Commissioner before proceeding with any debate. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi posted on social media that he is ready to debate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on any stage, proposing a public setting with a neutral judge.
