Alaska voter switches support to Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan amid election controversy

Résumé

A voter who had considered backing Democratic candidate Mary Peltola said he will vote for incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan after learning about a reported ballot scheme.

A voter in Alaska told Fox News that he will cast his ballot for incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, despite previously contemplating a vote for Democratic Senate candidate former Rep. Mary Peltola. The voter, who remained unnamed, said he found the situation surrounding a candidate with a similar name to the incumbent "sketchy" and expressed disappointment after reading a New York Times report about a alleged scheme to recruit a decoy candidate.

"When the New York Times article came out, and I found out how that transpired, I was disgusted by the whole thing," the voter said.

He added that he had thought about voting for Peltola but ultimately decided to support Sullivan. A woman accompanying him described the alleged scheme as unethical and said she also would vote for Sullivan.

Former Rep. Mary Peltola, the Democratic candidate, declined to comment to Fox News but previously stated she was unaware of any other candidates besides herself and the incumbent and denied any intent to mislead voters.

Sen. Dan Sullivan, speaking at a recent rally, referenced the controversy, saying, "We all knew that the decoy Dan guy was fake, but the extent of the corruption, the extent of the cheating."

President Donald Trump posted support for Sullivan on his social platform, praising the senator and criticizing the alleged ballot confusion.
