Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut is still in the hospital following a stroke he suffered on Saturday, with his office saying he is responding well to treatment.

Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut remained hospitalized on Tuesday after experiencing a stroke at his son's hockey game on Saturday, his office confirmed. He was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring, where staff said he was awake, alert and responding well to treatment.

"He's continuing to improve and heartened by the outpouring of well wishes," communications director Josh Sorbe said in an emailed statement to CNBC. "He early voted in Connecticut, and he encourages everyone to make their voices heard today by voting and sending a message in this defining election."

Murphy's office declined to provide additional details about his condition or expected recovery timeline. The Senate is scheduled to reconvene on Monday after Tuesday's midterm elections. Murphy, who was first elected to the Senate in 2013 after six years in the House, is not up for reelection this year but has been traveling this fall to support Democratic candidates and has been mentioned as a potential 2028 presidential contender.
