Showers Expected to Suppress Haze in Singapore Through Early November

Summary

The National Environment Agency forecasts that rain will keep haze levels moderate in Singapore until at least November 5, with PSI values projected between 51 and 80.

Rainfall over Singapore and nearby areas is expected to limit haze conditions through Thursday, November 5, according to the National Environment Agency (NEA). The agency's daily update on Monday, November 2, noted that prevailing winds will come mainly from the east or south-east, a direction that could carry smoke from fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra. However, anticipated showers over those regions are likely to mitigate the haze, keeping air quality in the moderate range.

The NEA projects the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) to stay between 51 and 80, which falls within the moderate category. At 7 p.m., hourly PM2.5 concentrations are expected to remain in the normal band of 0-55 µg/m³, with readings between 21 and 25. PSI levels are forecast to vary across the city-state, ranging from 63 in the eastern region to 81 in the west.

In a fortnightly weather outlook covering the first half of November, released on October 29, the NEA indicated that moderate to heavy thundery showers are likely over parts of Singapore on most days, with some showers extending into the evening.
