Former junior hockey executive charged with child sexual exploitation

सारांश

Tyler King, a former assistant general manager of the Okotoks Oilers, was arrested on multiple child exploitation charges after an RCMP investigation identified underage victims in several provinces.

A former executive of the Okotoks Oilers junior hockey team has been charged with several child sexual exploitation offences following a two-year RCMP investigation. The probe began after an Oilers employee reported that a former staff member was soliciting and paying minor players for intimate images. Police said the investigation uncovered multiple victims, all under 18, who were playing junior hockey in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Tyler King, 39, a Canadian citizen residing in the United States, was detained at an Ontario border crossing and is expected to be transferred to Alberta later this week. He faces three counts of luring a person under 18, sexual exploitation of a young person and making child pornography.

"Three players, all under 18, were victimized," Alberta RCMP said at a news conference.

King had served as the Oilers' assistant general manager of business operations and was the team's play-by-play announcer for two seasons. In 2024 he moved to British Columbia to work for the Nanaimo Clippers junior team, a position the police said was likely filled without knowledge of the allegations. Authorities indicated that additional victims may exist in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario and the Alberta communities of Fort McMurray and Brooks.

At the time of his arrest, King was employed at the State University of New York campus in Oswego. The RCMP said it remains unclear whether he is under investigation for conduct in the United States. The number of potential victims is still being determined, and police continue to urge anyone affected to come forward.
