Russian bomb attack on Ukrainian aid centre kills 24
A Russian airstrike on a school used as a humanitarian centre in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhia region, killed 24 people and injured several others, Ukrainian officials said.
A Russian bomb attack on a school serving as a humanitarian centre in the village of Komyshuvakha in Ukraine's Zaporizhia region killed 24 people, including a police officer and two State Emergency Service rescuers, and injured five others, according to Ukraine's emergency services agency. The strike involved an initial bomb followed by a second wave of nine additional bombs that hit the shelter where civilians were gathered.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack demonstrated that Russia does not seek de-escalation or justice, and he posted on Telegram that the victims were receiving aid at the location each week. Regional Governor Mykhailo Semikin added that 27 people remain missing.
Footage released by Ukrainian emergency services showed the building reduced to smouldering rubble, with rescuers working at the site.
In other parts of the country, drone strikes in the Kharkiv region injured 12 people and damaged a refrigeration facility, greenhouses and residential buildings. Five people were injured in Odesa after a warehouse was hit.
Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed to have shot down 212 Ukrainian drones overnight, and the governor of the Samara region said local air defences repelled an aerial attack, without providing further details.
