Police probe reports of needles found in Halloween candy in Ontario and Quebec

सारांश

Durham and Toronto police are investigating multiple reports of sewing needles discovered inside various Halloween candy items, while Quebec authorities are looking into two similar incidents.

Police in Durham Regional Police Service and the Toronto Police Service are investigating reports that sewing needles were found inside Halloween candy sold in several neighbourhoods. The Durham alert identified the location of the affected candy near Ritson Road North and Taunton Road, where officers conducted a canvass on Sunday.

Barry Horn, a resident who discovered the first needle in a KitKat bar while checking his children's treats, said additional needles were later found in a Tunnock’s caramel wafer biscuit, a Cadbury product and a Snickers bar. Horn described using a magnet to locate a metal object in the biscuit before opening it on camera, revealing a concealed pin. He said his family examined each piece of candy individually after the discoveries.

Toronto police confirmed they are reviewing a single report of tampered candy in the Upper Beaches area but have not identified a broader safety threat. In Quebec, the Sûreté du Québec is investigating two separate incidents involving needles or metal pins found in chocolate in Drummondville and Saint-Marcel. No injuries have been reported in any of the cases.
