King Charles caught in rainstorm during Antigua visit

摘要

King Charles was briefly soaked by a sudden tropical rainstorm in Antigua, while Queen Camilla used the only umbrella available, and later joked about the incident.

King Charles was caught in a sudden tropical rainstorm while on a Caribbean tour of Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday. As the downpour intensified, the monarch raised his hands and turned toward the crowd, seeking assistance, while Queen Camuda remained under the sole umbrella present. Participants in the Antigua and Barbuda Independence Day parade continued their march despite the weather.

After a local offered an umbrella, Charles accepted it and later made a light-hearted comment that was posted on the Royal Family’s Instagram account.

"I think I'm about to grow watercress on my suit," he said.

The incident follows previous public moments in which the king has reacted visibly to minor mishaps, such as a pen leaking ink at an event in Northern Ireland after his accession in 2022. Charles is scheduled to address Commonwealth leaders on Tuesday and has previously expressed regret over the legacy of the British slave trade without issuing a formal apology.
