Tens of thousands gathered at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday to honor the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The memorial service featured speeches from President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, among others.
President Trump praised Kirk as a "great American hero" and "martyr" for freedom, crediting him with playing a pivotal role in his 2024 election victory. He stated, "I know I speak for everyone here today when I say that none of us will ever forget Charlie. And neither now will history."
Vice President Vance highlighted Kirk's profound faith and commitment to conservative values, urging attendees to continue Kirk's mission. He remarked, "For Charlie, we will remember that it is better to stand on our feet defending the United States of America and defending the truth than it is to die on our knees."
Erika Kirk, who has been appointed as the new CEO of Turning Point USA, expressed forgiveness toward her husband's alleged assailant, stating, "My husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life... I forgive him."
The service also included remarks from other prominent figures, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who emphasized Kirk's impact on conservative youth and his dedication to free speech on college campuses.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on September 10 during an event at Utah Valley University. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has been charged with his murder. Authorities have not revealed a clear motive, but prosecutors allege Robinson expressed disdain for Kirk's views in a text message following the shooting.
The memorial service underscored Kirk's influence within the conservative movement and the ongoing debate over political violence in the United States.
