University of Michigan police detained a student who shoved conservative influencer Lizzy Benichou during an unpermitted event, and the student was released pending a warrant.
University of Michigan police said a student was arrested after shoving conservative influencer Lizzy Benichou during an unpermitted event on the Ann Arbor campus on Sunday. The incident occurred as the group was packing up to leave, and officers observed the student assault a woman who was not affiliated with the university.
Benichou posted on X that she was "OK" after the assault and thanked law-enforcement officers for their response. She said the incident happened during a "Liberty Under Fire USA" tour stop and noted that political violence has no place in the United States.
"Political violence has NO place in the United States of America," Benichou wrote.
University of Michigan police confirmed the student was taken into custody, processed and released pending warrant authorization. No injuries were reported.
The attack took place a few days before Michigan voters head to the polls for the U.S. Senate race between Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Republican former Representative Mike Rogers.
