Eight-year-old boy placed in juvenile observation home after assault on six-year-old girl in Haryana school
Police in Haryana have opened a case and suspended school staff after CCTV footage showed an eight-year-old boy violently attacking a six-year-old girl, who is now recovering in hospital.
CCTV footage from a government school in Panchkula, Haryana, showed an eight-year-old boy violently assaulting a six-year-old girl on 28 October. The girl, who was seriously injured, was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to the PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh, where she is now out of danger but remains traumatised, according to her family.
Police have registered a first information report against the school management for alleged negligence and have suspended the principal and two teachers while the investigation continues. The boy, a third-grade student, has been placed in a juvenile observation home where he is undergoing psychiatric evaluation under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The girl's father said he was informed by an auto-rickshaw driver that his daughter had not been picked up after school and that he could not locate her. He later found her in a classroom where the boy had told him she was waiting.
Hospital director Vivek Lal said the child's condition is being closely monitored by a multidisciplinary team and that the hospital is providing all necessary medical care and support.
Senior police officials Aditi Singh and Amarinder Singh said the investigation will continue and that further action will be taken based on the boy's mental health assessment.
