Young Voter Sentiment Shifts in Michigan Senate Race and Fatal Florida Jet Crash

A recent NBC News Decision Desk poll indicates that only 28% of men aged 18 to 29 approve of President Donald Trump, a drop that could affect tight midterm contests such as the Michigan Senate race. Republicans and Democrats cited housing affordability, the conflict in Iran, and the administration’s handling of the Epstein files as key factors behind the shift.

Senate candidates Mike Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed are both targeting the demographic. El-Sayed has criticized the war and incorporated some "America First" rhetoric, while Rogers has emphasized housing costs in his campaign. Both candidates have also used sports references, including football, to connect with younger voters.

In a surprising development, Rep. Haley Stevens, who previously ran against El-Sayed in the Democratic primary, endorsed Rogers. The endorsement followed a dispute in which El-Sayed’s campaign asked Stevens to stop attending his events after an outside advertisement was deemed antisemitic. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the move was "a despicable betrayal from Rep. Stevens."

Separately, a Learjet 60 departing Texas for the Bahamas crashed into a residential street in the Cresthaven area of Palm Beach County, Florida, killing all nine people on board. Federal Aviation Administration officials described the impact as a high-speed nose-down collision that caused a fire and a crater in the roadway. A dash-cam video captured the aircraft’s descent, and air-traffic control recordings included a distress call reporting a rapid loss of altitude.

The National Weather Service warned that showers and thunderstorms were expected to continue in the region, potentially contributing to the accident.
